THE LEGEND

In 1922, here in Custer County, everybody and their brother owned a vehicle. It was the best way to traverse the vast sandhills territory. Despite having the lowest population count, we claimed the fourth- largest number of vehicles in the
state and we still claim “4-county” on our license plates to this day.
